2008 SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE PASSING LEAGUE GALLERY NOW ONLINE

The '08 SWC Passing League is in the books: Day 1 saw Valhalla with a 4-0 record and seeded #2 behind Helix for the tournament on Saturday.  Saturday morning's first game vs. Steele Canyon went according to schedule, and Valhalla advanced to the next round.  However, we ran into some minor problems during the scrimmage against Cathedral (nothing that can't be fixed over the next few weeks!) and went home after that round.

Some additional highlights: we were victorious over both Saints' and Steele: on the following Tuesday's passing league at Helix, we dominated on both sides of the ball - well done Norsemen!

Thanks to Derrick White's uncle, we have some outstanding still photos of Saturday's action.  These may be seen by selecting "Multimedia -> Galleries -> Varsity," then from the left column on the new page click on "SWC Passing League" (or simply click here.

There are two Contents pages, and clicking on any photo will display a larger version.  If you would like a high-resolution version of any image, simply send an email to me and include the name of the desired file.

Thanks Mr. White - these photos are awesome and we look forward to more of your outstanding work this season!!!

DAY 1: SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE PASSING LEAGUE TOURNAMENT

Valhalla turned in a fabulous performance in the first of this two-day tournament, including a spectacular last-play win over St. Augustine's, 48-42.  When the dust had settled, the Norsemen found themselves in possession of a 4-0 record.  The team operated with great precision on both sides of the ball, scoring at will and regularly thwarting opponents' drive attempts.

Day 2 promises to be just as exciting, so come down to South Bay and support the team.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to a scheduling conflict, the venue is moving from Southwestern Community College to Olympian High School.  More information is available here.

VARSITY MUG SHOTS PICTURE DAY - JUNE 26

Varsity mugshots (chest-up shots for the game program) will be taken on Thursday, June 26.  All varsity players must arrive at school no later than 3:00 PM with a shirt and tie.  After the photos are taken, you will change into standard practice garb for the 4:00 practice.

MANDATORY MEETING FOR INCOMING FRESHMAN ATHLETES AND PARENTS!!!

It's hard to believe, but the school year is almost over. Accordingly, it's time to remind everyone of the *MANDATORY* meeting coming up on Tuesday, June 3rd (that's this coming Tuesday) at the Valhalla Theater at 7:00PM. Coach Sutton will be present to answer questions and describe the Valhalla football program in general, and he will be handing out important information about the upcoming summer practice schedule.

At least one parent and each student athlete must attend this meeting!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the layout of the school, the easiest way to get to the theater is as follows (this assumes the appropriate doors are unlocked, which they should be):
  • Park in the main student lot at the southeastern side of the school (reached via "Valhalla Drive" at the light on Hillsdale).
  • Head towards the gym/locker room complex (large "NORSEMEN" painted on the wall facing the parking lot).
  • When you reach the locker room, turn right and follow the sidewalk / ramp up to the main school building - you will see the swimming pool on your left.
  • Enter the school and turn LEFT - follow this main thoroughfare around until you reach the first large open space on the right. The theater is reached thru a set of double doors (and you will likely see other parents/coaches/boosters milling around in this area).
SEE YOU THERE, AND WELCOME TO VALHALLA FOOTBALL!

IMPORTANT - SPRINGBALL SCHEDULE UPDATE

Effective as of 5/21, the Varsity springball practice time is changing FROM 5:30 TO 3:30 (same as JV).  This change will remain in effect thru the remainder of the springball schedule.

Additionally, the springball games scheduled for 5/31 have been cancelled due to a scheduling conflict with the main field.  Coach is working on finding an alternate date, and we'll update you just as soon as we know more.

BOOSTER BOARD NOMINATIONS NOW BEING ACCEPTED!

The VHS Football Boosters are accepting nominations for board positions during the 2008/9 season. With everything that is going on in our program, strong leadership at the Board level is critical to a successful year.  Please review the information posted here.  Elections will be held at the next scheduled meeting (June 10), so don't wait too long.  We have numerous positions available, and your will find that time spent serving on the board is both rewarding and fun (plus, you will be HELPING YOUR SON AND HIS VHS FOOTBALL TEAM!).

Don't hesitate to nominate yourself - otherwise we may not know you're interested in filling a position on the board.  Send nominations to boosters@valhallafootball.com.

THANK YOU and we look forward to another great year with your generous help.

SPRING BALL STARTS MONDAY 5/12

Spring Ball football practice starts Monday 5/12.  Monday's session starts at 3:15 and Coach will let the teams know what he expects, what to bring, and what you should expect.  Please review the schedule here.  Tuesday will be your first chance to show what you've been doing all winter in Weight Training.

2008 SEASON-OPENER BOOSTER MEETING ON 5/13

In preparation for the 2008/9 football season, the Booster club is holding the Season Opener meeting Tuesday, May 13 at 7:00PM in the VHS Theater.

This is an important meeting for rookie and veteran parents alike.  We will be discussing many aspects of the coming year's program, including:
  • Board member positions, duties, and responsibilities
  • Fundraising activities (this year promises to be very fun)
  • Administrative issues including calendars, schedules, etc.
  • Nomination of the 2008/9 Booster Board
  • other items to be defined
IMPORTANT: all persons interested in supporting the 2008/9 Valhalla Football program at the Booster board level are encouraged to throw their name into the hat during the nomination process.  Next year's Board will be voted in during the June 10th meeting.  If you have any questions about becoming a board member, please contact Sean Mallory  at seanm1@cox.net or Bruce Toth @ btinsd@cox.net.

Clear your calendars now for the 13th: we look forward to seeing you all there!
