NORSEMEN FOOTBALL SCHEDULES

CLASS of 2013 INCOMING FRESHMAN SUMMER SCHEDULE

WELCOME TO VALHALLA FOOTBALL!!!

This section contains important dates and events which you should be aware of if you are interested in participating in Valhalla Football your freshman year.

The coaching staff encourages you to get involved as soon as possible so we can get to know you, and so that you may familiarize yourself with all of the traditions that Valhalla Football has to offer.

Be sure to review this entire page (scroll down as necessary) so that you are familiar with all scheduled activities.

IMPORTANT
This summer the Valhalla High School campus will be closed to all activities between June 6th and sometime in August (actual date TBD). As a result,
INCOMING FROSH SUMMER WORKOUTS WILL TAKE PLACE AT
HILTON HEAD PARK.
MAKE NOTE OF THIS CHANGE FROM THE ORIGINALLY-SCHEDULED LOCATION!!!

SUMMER CONDITIONING

Due to the aforementioned campus closure at Valhalla, we will not have access to our weight room over much of the summer. As a result, we'll be concentrating on conditioning over at Cuyamaca Community College. The schedule appears in the table below: Monday-Wednesday-Friday for four weeks, and Monday of the fifth week.

While attendance in this program is not required, it is strongly encouraged.

The first day the staff will evaluate athletes to match their skills and potential to various positions. The next two sessions will be devoted to learning the basics of our offensive and defensive schemes.

FRESHMAN DEAD PERIOD

Dead Period is the name given to the CIF-mandated period during which no contact between coaches and players is permitted.

Our dead period begins on Friday July 24 and ends on Sunday August 9th.

This is an ideal time to plan that family vacation, since after this period the schedule fills up and stays full through nearly the entire season.

NOTE: due to scheduling of Varsity Passing League tournaments, the JV / Varsity Dead Period starts on Sunday, July 26 (two days AFTER the Frosh dead period begins). Families with frosh AND JV / Varsity athletes should make note of this difference in schedules.

PHYSICALS

All athletes must have record of a current physical exam on file with the school. Physicals (regardless of who gives them) are valid for one year from the date of the exam. Valhalla usually offers low-cost physicals on campus. But (surprise!!!) due to the summer campus closure, we don't yet know for sure when (or where) these will be given. The Cost is usually $15.00, but we won't know for sure until the date is scheduled. You must have the appropriate paperwork (permission slip, emergency information, etc.) completed and signed PRIOR TO taking the exam. All paperwork may be obtained at the Finance Office. The Physical exam consists of:
  • answering basic health-history questions,
  • observation of range-of-motion,
  • weight and heart rate measurements, etc.,
  • discussion of any major injuries and/or illnesses.
You may use your own physician if you so choose.

TESTING AND CONDITIONING

Testing and Conditioning will take place the week following Dead Period, detailed schedule to be posted at a later date. Meet at the varsity football stadium wearing shorts, t-shirts and cleats.

FIRST DAY OF FRESHMAN FOOTBALL

Football begins on August 10th at 3:30 PM. Athletes MUST have a physical (see above), proof of medical insurance, have purchased an ASB card, and obtain clearance through the Finance Office BEFORE they will be allowed to participate in any practice and/or game. A clearance packet (including all paperwork and forms) may be picked up at the Valhalla Finance office at any time during the summer (during regular summer hours).

ALL ATHLETES MUST BE CLEARED (PHYSICAL AND ALL PAPERWORK COMPLETE AND ON FILE WITH THE SCHOOL) PRIOR TO STARTING PRACTICE ON AUGUST 10th, 2009.
